Sophia Peterson has quickly become a popular instructor for younger pitchers and focuses on proper mechanics for speed, spot, and spin.
Sophia has been teaching pitching lessons for two years and she began pitching with Jackie Magill at Rita Lynn Gilman’s pitching shop at age 9. Sophia is now a rising college sophomore from Ashland, VA and her top measured speed in the shop is 67 MPH.
Sophia played travel ball for the Virginia Glory, Tennessee Mojo, and Hanover Hornets organizations and received multiple offers to pitch in college after her 2024-25 high school senior year. She committed to play softball for Sweet Briar College in the ODAC and enrolled at Sweet Briar in Amherst, VA in August 2025.
Sophia is a dual sport athlete at Sweet Briar as she is an active member of their IHSA equestrian team during the fall semester.
Following the conclusion of the spring 2026 softball season, Sophia was selected for the All-ODAC Softball Team as a freshman. She was also awarded the Jean Pschirrer First-Year Athlete Award Winner at Sweet Briar College.
Her lesson rate is $50.
Sophia continues to work with Jackie and is featured in Rita Lynn’s video on the importance of Stationary Drill Mechanics.
During the school year, Sophia also offers pitching lessons in Amherst County.

Sophia was homeschooled (GPA: 4.0) and was captain for three seasons of the Central Virginia Homeschool Varsity Lady Patriots, a team ranked in the Top 25 across all high schools in Virginia (over 300 varsity teams).
